KUALA LUMPUR: More than 20,000 job opportunities are available at a two-day career fair at the Putra World Trade Centre here. The National Supply Chain Conference on Rail Projects and Career Fair 2018, which begins today, is organised by the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida).
Mida chief executive officer, Datuk Azman Mahmud, said 100 companies were taking part in the event. He said it was the biggest career fair organised by the authority.
Meanwhile, more than 2,000 representatives of industry players, local authorities, business chambers and embassies attended the conference, where opportunities in the supply chains of local infrastructure projects were discussed.
The speakers were from the Land Public Transport Commission, Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd, Malaysia Rail Link Sdn Bhd and MyHSR Corporation Sdn Bhd.
The 28 key exhibits focused mainly on rail projects, including those developed by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Bhd and other industry players.
Azman said Mida was developing opportunities for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to participate in multinational companies’ supply chains.
“Recognising that infrastructure development is an important catalyst to promote investments to spur the country’s economic growth, we are intensifying efforts to promote sustainable linkages among all stakeholders.
“We want to encourage the transfer of advanced technology, increase in employment opportunities and talent development as well as sustain the growth of local industry players, including SMEs in related sectors.”
Azman said Mida has also embarked on a nationwide effort to spur the development of industrial parks.
He said the Industrial Park Forum was set up to meet the needs of emerging industries, particularly in terms of Internet connectivity, industry 4.0 elements, efficient management of park facilities, eco-waste management and adequate supply of utility requirements.
“In the context of the rail industry, the Malaysia Rail Industry Corporation, a group of 31 local rail industry companies, has come up with a proposal to set up a dedicated industrial park to streamline the rail industrial ecosystem.
“We are following closely on the development of this proposal and stand ready to assist where necessary,” he said.
