Abdul Rahman : Don't believe all the propaganda spread by the opposition

KUALA LUMPUR: The public should not believe any propaganda spread by the opposition on Barisan Nasional (BN) ahead and during the 14th general elections.

BN strategic communications director Datuk Seri Abdul Rahman Dahlan said the propaganda was not based on facts and figures but lies to create a negative perception towards BN.

He added among the lies which spread rapidly on social media by the opposition was that the country’s sovereignty had been sold to China due to their numeous investments into the country.

“China is the third largest investor in Malaysia after Japan and Singapore. If we follow the opposition’s logic, the nation’s sovereignty would have been lost long ago been sold to the two countries other than China.

“The cumulative total investment of China (including Hong Kong) in Malaysia as at 2017 is worth RM65.0 billion, lower than Singapore's cumulative total investment (RM116.3 billion) and Japan (RM71.6 billion),” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Rahman said total foreign investments into Malaysia in 2017 stood at RM565 billion, of which China's investment is only 11.5 percent from total overall investments which include investors from Germany, the UK and the US.

“The closer we are to the 14th General Election (GE14), there will be more propaganda disseminated by the opposition aimed at intimidating Malaysians. Malaysians should be cautious before believing and spreading such information.

“As for the opposition, they are willing to do anything for power, including sabotaging the nation's economy and the people.

“BN would never sell off the country’s sovereignty, not even a little, to any foreign country. Do not abandon your future and our beloved nation (by spreading the propaganda),” he said.

Abdul Rahman added that this false information could also deter future investors from coming into Malaysia and thus making fewer jobs available for the people.

He however, said that based on the positive feedback on the nation’s economy, Saudi Arabian Oil Company (Saudi Aramco) of Saudi Arabia have invested US$7 billion (RM27billion) in the Petronas Refinery & Petrochemical Integrated Development (RAPID) project in Pengerang.
