KUALA LUMPUR: Thirty taxi drivers suffered minor injuries while queueing to collect the 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Card on Friday.

The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD) in a statement said that the incident occured due to a handful of attendees who did not comply with the systematic management control measures applied at the hall.

SPAD however said that its enforcement personnel together with the police and People’s Volunteer Corps (Rela) managed to take immediate action and controlled the situation by 7pm.

“All those injured were treated immediately including one who was sent to the hospital to receive further treatment.

“SPAD will bear the medical costs of the individual,” read the statement.

SPAD added that a total of 60 registration management counters were provided and that a ‘queue’ system for the card acquisition were applied to cater for 12,000 taxi drivers who were present.

According to SPAD, taxi drivers may collect the 1Malaysia Taxi Assistance Card from Monday, April 16 until July 16, at the SPAD offices nationwide (except its headquarters in Kuala Lumpur), namely in Kelana Jaya, Penang, Kuala Terengganu and Johor Bahru.

The card can also be collected at SPAD branches in Melaka, UTC Ipoh, UTC Alor Setar, UTC Kota Bahru and UTC Kuantan, from Tuesday, April 17 until July 16.
