C-Cycle Challenge scheduled for May 13 postponed to Sept 23

KUALA LUMPUR: The second edition of the C-Cycle Challenge 2018 scheduled to be held on May 13 has been postponed to Sept 23.

The original time and the venue of the event at Eco Sanctuary, south of Kota Kemuning in Teluk Panglima Garang remain unchanged.

New Straits Times Press Bhd (NSTP) chief executive officer Datuk Seri Abdul Jalil Hamid said the postponement was due to the 14th General Election slated for polling on May 9 and other cycling events.

“On behalf of NSTP and the C-Cycle Challenge Committee 2018, I would like to offer our sincere apologies for this difficult but avoidable postponement,” Jalil said in a statement today.

The new date, he said, would enable organisers more time to plan and promote the event, touted as the nation’s premier cycling challenge.

“The event, which aims to unite Malaysians, will also be very timely with the Merdeka Day and Malaysia Day celebrations on Aug 31 and Sept 16 respectively,” he said.

Jalil also said registered participants, who wish to cancel for full refund, may do so before May 9. Requests for refund will not be entertained after the date.

“We understand the inconvenience that this may cause, especially to the riders, who have confirmed their participation.

“As such, we shall reimburse registered riders who have paid but wish to cancel their participation,” he said.

Held in partnership with property developer Eco World Development Group Bhd, with Bank Muamalat Malaysia Bhd as the event’s official bank and Treknology as product sponsor, this year’s C-Cycle Challenge is expected to attract 1,300 participants.

Riders will be flagged off from EcoWorld Sales Gallery at Persiaran Eco Sanctuary and split into two routes, either a 160km race track or a 35km Fun Ride.

For the race categories, there are the Men’s Open (18 to 39 years old), Women’s Open (15 years old and above), Senior Men’s Open (40 years and above) and Team Cycling (minimum of six participants), with a registration fee of RM160.

The Fun Ride category, meanwhile, is open to all participants with a participation fee of RM50.

Contestants stand to win a grand total of RM37,700 in prize money. Lucky draws will be held with prizes worth more than RM49,000 up for grabs.

Registration will close on Aug 24 and participants can register at www.nst.com.my/c-cycle.

Participants are also entitled to a three-month prepaid e-paper subscription.

More than 1,200 cyclists took part in the inaugural C-Cycle Challenge held on May 21 last year.
