PORT DICKSON: A total of nine Bata Malaysia employees were presented the Loyal Employee Award for serving the company between 15 to 25 years, at an event held here on Wednesday.
Its longest serving employee, Yong Yaw Hang, 44, said he started working at Bata Malaysia at the age of 18, on May 15, 1992, as a general worker.
“Four years later, at 22, I was promoted to Depot Manager in Ipoh Perak, making me the youngest employee to hold the position at that time.
“After that, I was promoted to the marketing department and worked in Johor Bahru from 1999 to 2002. I was then sent to Sabah before returning to Johor Bahru in 2013 until now, as a marketing executive.
“I am very proud to be one of the company’s longest serving employee, which has given me various opportunities and experiences besides visiting other countries. Of course, I had received various offers from other companies but I am loyal to Bata Malaysia,” said the father of one.
Norlelah Othman, 47, who has served the company for 20 years, is proud to be one of Bata Malaysia’s most loyal employees since joining the company in November 1997.
“I joined the company at a time when the economy was less than stable but I was motivated because Bata was still hiring at that time. To me, it was an indication that the company was strong and stable.
“This award is proof that the company appreciates its loyal employees. From a general worker, I am now a branch manager at its outlet in Aeon Kepong,” said the single mother who has two children, aged 15 and 21.
Other employees who received the award were Zulkarnain Zainal and Thu Yuen Wan (15 years service), Chau Chee Pong, Ang Kah Ho, Lee Gaik Chin, Rohiala Ali dan Khoo Wong Lin (20 years service).
Meanwhile, Bata Malaysia manager, Ajay Ramachandran, said the award also served as a boost to other employees and at the same time, recognises those who had dedicated their services to the company.
He said it also provided the opportunity for the company to share the experiences with the employees especially in improving the marketing of its products, which is recognised around the world.
