PN hopes its members remain loyal to the party

KUALA LUMPUR: Perikatan Nasional (PN) stands firm in its position and hopes that its members will remain loyal to the party, despite some elected representatives switching their allegiance to the unity government.

Its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said those in attendance today had no intention of emulating the defections of rogue MPs and assemblymen.

"Many came to see me from Selangor earlier saying, 'I am not the one, Tan Sri, I am not', indicating they do not want to be associated with what the Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari did.

"However, at the parliamentary level, there is no story (about MPs leaving the party)," he told reporters after the PN MPs and Assemblymen Convention, here today.

Muhyiddin reassured that PN's stance remained strong, especially after Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) passed a motion to amend its constitution aimed at preventing members from switching sides.

Meanwhile, Muhyiddin said that he, along with secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin and several PN top leaders, would bring the decision on constitution amendment to the Registrar of Societies (RoS) on Monday at 10am.

"God willing, we will meet, and we hope that the registrar will give fair consideration and give approval as soon as possible," he said.

Previously, six Perikatan Nasional MPs and one assemblyman pledged their support to the current government.

The six MPs who have switched allegiance are Datuk Syed Abu Hussin Hafiz Syed Abdul Fasal (Bukit Gantang), Mohd Azizi Abu Naim (Gua Musang), Datuk Dr Zulkafperi Hanapi (Tanjong Karang), Zahari Kechik (Jeli), Datuk Iskandar Dzulkarnain Abdul Khalid (Kuala Kangsar) and Datuk Dr Suhaili Abdul Rahman (Labuan).

The assemblyman was Selat Klang assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari, the former Selangor Bersatu chief who announced his support for Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari earlier this week.
