KUALA LUMPUR: Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Seri Dr Salleh Said Keruak has stated that the opposition pact’s leaders, involving Parti Keadilan Rakyat, DAP and Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM), make strange bedfellows.
Referring to the pact between PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang and PPBM chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Salleh said they used to be bent on destroying one another and that ‘even political expediency is no excuse for them to work together’.
“Worse still is when they offer lame excuses to explain and justify their pact. At one time Anwar, Wan Azizah and Kit Siang opposed Mahathir on the excuse they needed to save Malaysia.
“Now they unite with Mahathir on that same excuse of saving Malaysia,” he said in his latest blog post.
Salleh, who is also Umno treasurer, said that Malaysians must not forget that in 1993, Kit Siang had condemned Anwar (who was then Finance Minister) and demanded his resignation, and accused him of lying to the Parliament.
“Then he works with Anwar. Then Kit Siang said if the opposition comes to power they will make Dr Mahathir pay for his crimes. And now he works with Dr Mahathir,” he said, adding that this was clear evidence that the opposition pact was merely a marriage of convenience with each party having their own agenda.
According to Salleh, the pact was not about the interest of the nation but about the pursuit of political power.
“The opposition pact will not last and if they come to power, the nation will suffer. This is the reality of the opposition pact,” he said. — BERNAMA
