KUCHING: The Home Ministry has detected foreign agents abusing passports of countries with diplomatic ties with Malaysia to enter the country to carry out “certain missions”.
This included agents of a country in the Middle East which had a network al over the world, specifically to carry out secret missions to protect their interests.
Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the government was always monitoring foreign agents, but this was sometimes made difficult when they use passports which have diplomatic relations with Malaysia.
“In this case (the killing of Palestinian private university lecturer Dr Fadi M.R. Albatsh), we have some difficulty in finding the culprits. But we will take an optimistic point of view and be confident that we will.
“We know of a country in the Middle East which will do anything to deny the potential of the Palestinian people. They target Palestinians who have certain expertise so that they can quell the possibility of an intifada happening there before it can even begin,” he said.
Zahid was speaking before leaving for the federal capital after a working visit to Sarawak.
On Saturday , two men believed to be either Europeans or Middle Easterners fired 20 shots at Fadi as he was walking from his home in Setapak, Kuala Lumpur, to a nearby surau for subuh prayers.
Police formed a special task force, led by City police Criminal Investigation Department chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Rusdi Mohd Isa, to look into the case.
Photofits of the suspects have since been released.
