Motorcycle lane, flyover on Federal Highway ready in June

PETALING JAYA: Work on the motorcycle lane and flyover along the Federal Highway is 82 per cent complete and will likely be opened for use by riders no later than June.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof said work on the lane and flyover along a 60m stretch of the highway was for both directions.

He said the stretch was chosen because flash floods often occurred there, making it dangerous for motorcyclists.

“They are forced to get out of the lane and onto the highway proper and this is extremely dangerous. That is why we planned this flyover and we hope that it will not only make it easier but safer for motorcyclists.

“We believe that this flyover will benefit some 15,000 motorcyclists each day,” he told reporters after making a surprise visit to the site of the project.

Fadillah spent some 30 minutes of so at the site and was briefed on construction work by Petaling district Public Works Department engineer Abdul Latif Shariff.

“The construction of this project, at a cost of RM29 million, is proof that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak has the people’s safety and comfort in mind.

“In 2016, I rode along the motorcycle lane and found that there were lots of problems, including cracks and potholes in several places. We immediately allocated RM500,000 to repair the lane. Then we brought the issue to the attention of the prime minister and he made the allocation for the work we see going on here through the 2017 Budget.”
