Dr Fadi assassination: Police enlist Interpol, Aseanapol help

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have enlisted the aid of Interpol and Aseanapol in their bid to track down the men who assassinated Palestine lecturer, Dr Fadi M R Albatsh outside a condominium in Setapak two weeks ago.

Police say although they have made some headway in tracking down the men, including the men’s photofits, their exact whereabouts remain elusive.

The men are believed to have fled abroad.

Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohamad Fuzi Harun said investigation and efforts to trace the men, believed to be of Middle Eastern or European origin, are still ongoing.

“A comprehensive search is underway in the country and abroad. We have also been in contact with Interpol and our associates in the Asean region to help us find these men,,” he fold a press conference on Monday after police’s monthly assembly in Bukit Aman.

Fuzi had previously said that the men had entered the country using fake identities. He also did not discount the possibility that the men had military training.

At the event, Fuzi presented 214 police personnel with the Pingat Jasa Pahlawan Negara (PJN), as well as appreciation letters to two female police personnel who achieves success in the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia.

On another matter, Fuzi said police are awaiting a full report from the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM)

on its investigation into claims by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s that his private jet was “sabotaged.”

“The investigation is being handled by CAAM. We are waiting for the results before taking any action,” he said.

Dr Mahathir had last week claimed that the private jet, which was supposed to fly him from Subang to Langkawi, had been sabotaged, with the pilot having detected the damage just before takeoff.

CAAM, in response, rejected the claims. CAAM chairman Datuk Seri Azharuddin Abdul Rahman had stated that Dr Mahathir’s plane was unable to fly due to air leakage from the left hand nose wheel, which was a minor and routine technical fault.

CAAM’s statement was backed by the private jet charter, Vista Jet, who confirmed that one of the company’s aircraft had a technical issue in its normal course of operations before departure, which at no point jeopardised safety.
