Police will ensure smooth polling in Negeri Sembilan

SEREMBAN: A total of 3,721 police officers and personnel have been tasked to ensure smooth polling in the state tomorrow for the 14th General Election (GE14).

State police media relations officer for GE14, Deputy Supt Mazrin Mahmud said, from the total, 2001 policemen will be assigned to 313 polling centres which comprise eight parliamentary constituencies.

“They will be tasked with guarding the ballot channels and boxes, while maintaining public order at the voting centres. The remaining policemen will be stationed at all district police headquarters for any contingencies,” he said.

Mazrin added, that besides policemen, the team would also use the services of People’s Volunteer Corps (RELA) personnel to help 261 traffic police ensure smooth flow of traffic on voting day.

“We urge the public to cooperate with our officers and Rela members to help ease the voting process,” he said during a press conference at the state police contingent headquarters yesterday.

As for GE14 talks and campaigns, Mazrin said, to date, a total of 495 talks and 382 campaigns have been held in the state since last Saturday.

“No incidents have been recorded so far and only 11 per cent of the total election talks held in the state were organised without permits.

“This shows that awareness has increased among all political parties on the importance of getting permits before holding any campaigns,” he said.

He also reminded all political parties to abide by rules and to end all talks and campaign activities by midnight before polling day.
