Police refute reports of raid at deluxe apartment resided by Najib's relatives

KUALA LUMPUR: Police have refuted news reports claiming that they conducted on Saturday a raid at a deluxe apartment unit here belonging to a relative of former Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

City police chief Datuk Seri Mazlan Lazim told the New Straits Times Press that the report, which alleged that plainclothes policemen raided the home, was untrue.

"The police are investigating the (news) reports and claims linked to the former prime minister. But, we have not conducted any raids as claimed by several media agencies Saturday.

"We are in the midst of checking the veracity of some of these reports and are gathering information accordingly but the so-called raid at Pavilion Residences tonight is not true," he said when contacted.

Mazlan said its was very irresponsible for media agencies to speculate or report an incident that had not taken place.

"Some of these reports published are not from credible sources. They probably heard it from a third party. It is not only unethical but is also an offence," Mazlan added.

He was referring to news that claimed a luxury apartment occupied by Najib's relatives had been raided after alleged attempts to conceal evidence.

The report quoted a police source as saying, a team of plainclothes officers had raided the unit fearing some important government documents may have been concealed or will be taken out of the country.

It said that the police were acting on a complaint that a government vehicle had delivered dozens of boxes made to carry designer handbags and other items to the apartment for Najib’s wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor.
