Bus plunges into monsoon drain near Kepala Batas, six injured

KEPALA BATAS: A driver and five passengers were injured when the bus they were travelling in plunged into a monsoon drain near Jalan Permatang Manggis, here, today.

Seberang Prai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said the driver was believed to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid into the opposite lane and hit an electric pole before ending up in the drain.

He said in the 7.30pm incident, the 32-year-old driver sustained injuries to his head and right shoulder while one of the passengers, 29, hurt his right elbow and hip. Both received treatment at Kepala Batas Hospital.

“Four other passengers, aged 20 to 62, sustained minor injuries and received outpatient treatment,” he said in a statement today.

He said police are still investigating the cause of the accident classified under Section 43(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
