State govt to review 'sick' projects approved during BN era

KUALA NERUS: Terengganu state government will review all the development projects carried out by the previous administration, especially those that were categorised as sick or problematic projects.

Menteri Besar Dr Ahmad Samsuri Mokhtar said one of the projects was Taman Ilmu di Tembila, in Besut, which had been abandoned for years.

“We will look into the project’s latest development and how it could benefit the government and the people.

“There were some quarters who had expressed interest in the project and we (state government) are still in the process of discussing the matter with the relevant parties.

“In this matter, it is important for the government to not only transform failed projects, but also make sure that such developments are beneficial to the people,” he said when met after handing of Raya vouchers to 278 staff at security company, Muaz Force Sdn Bhd, here.

Samsuri said the Pas-led state government was open to receiving ideas and suggestions from all, including the opposition, in addressing the problematic projects.

“We will deliberate on ideas that would help us in solving issues of sick projects without further burdening the state government. Apart from Taman Ilmu, there are other projects that need our attention,” he said.

The 280ha project, which faced delays since 2008, was developed under the East Coast Economic Region (ECER), with a cost of about RM300 million.
