Govt, rakyat need to work together to rebuild the nation

KUALA LUMPUR: The government cannot do it alone when it comes to rebuilding the country and its future.

Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail said both the people and the government must shoulder the responsibility together to ensure the country progresses and develops.

“After changing the government, let us take (the country) to a higher level and fill the victory of the transition with the blessing of Allah.

“It is akin to Real Madrid versus Liverpool, early this morning. The government cannot on its own develop the country, instead the government and the people should work together as a group to ensure the future well being of the nation,” she said.

Dr Wan Azizah said this in her speech at the Iftar Perdan event with the Deputy Prime Minister at the Nurul Hidayah Mosque in Kampung Pandan Dalam, here this afternoon.

Present at the event was Pakatan Harapan de-facto leader, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Selangor exco, Ir Izhan Hashim

Meanwhile, Anwar in his speech urged the people to monitor and criticise the government of the day to ensure its administration and policies are implemented on the right track.

He said the rakyat play an important role in ensuring the new government does not commit any wrongdoing in administering the nation.

“I told Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad that I would invite the people to monitor every elected representative, ministers, including the Deputy Prime Minister who is my wife.

“This is our task now, not to scold but to admonish with love that this (government) responsibility needs to be implemented properly," he said.

Anwar also stressed yet again that he did not want any government position and that his relationship with Dr Mahathir was quite good and is supportive of his efforts to save the country.

“It is enough that my wife leads (the country) with Tun Dr Mahathir and other leaders,” he said.
