KUALA LUMPUR: The decision on whether or not the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High-Speed Rail (HSR) project would be dropped has not been discussed in the Cabinet meeting.
Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the matter would be brought up in tomorrow's Cabinet meeting.
"We must ask the Prime Minister (on whether the decision to drop the project is final).
"As far as I know, we have not discussed the matter. I will surely bring it up in the Cabinet meeting tomorrow," Loke said when met after attending a Wesak Day celebration at the Maha Vihara Buddhist temple, here, today.
Loke was asked to comment on a statement made by Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad yesterday that the HSR project would be dropped as it has no benefit for Malaysia.
Speaking at a press conference, Dr Mahathir had said the decision to axe the project was final but noted that it would take some time 'because we have an agreement with Singapore'.
Dr Mahathir also said with that decision, Malaysia might have to pay a penalty close to RM500 million to Singapore.
Also present with Loke was Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng who declined to comment on the matter when asked.
Meanwhile, with regard to a viral message that alleged the chairman of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) was earning RM80,000 a month, Loke said the matter would also be brought up at the Cabinet meeting tomorrow.
Asked if he was going to investigate the allegation, Loke said, "We know, no need to investigate, but I will comment after the Cabinet meeting tomorrow."
In other development, Lim said Dr Mahathir would most likely announce the quantum of the Aidilfitri bonus for civil servants tomorrow.
