Pelita Nasi Kandar food, drinks now cheaper with zero-rated GST [NSTTV]

BUTTERWORTH: The price of food and drinks at all 24 Restoran Nasi Kandar Pelita branches nationwide will be cheaper by between 10 sen and 30 sen following the zero-rating of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) beginning today.

The reduction in prices will see, among others, roti canai and teh tarik being sold cheaper than before at the restaurants.

Pelita Samudra Pertama (M) Sdn Bhd managing director Datuk Sihabutheen Kirudu Mohamed, in welcoming the government’s move to zero-rate the GST, said he looked forward to more customers flocking their restaurants.

He said roti canai and teh tarik lovers had expressed disappointment due to the increase in prices following the implementation of the GST three years ago.

“With the zero-rating of the GST, we are delighted to reduce our prices between 10 sen and 30 sen.

“Customers can now enjoy our offerings at cheaper prices,” he told a press conference at its Prai branch here

today.

Meanwhile, Sihabutheen also asked for cooperation from suppliers to also sell the goods to them with zero GST.

“If everybody does this, everybody will be happy, especially our customers,” he added.

Sihabutheen was also asked on a restaurant which had been ordered temporary closure by the Federal Territories Health Department’s Food Quality and Safety Department following a viral video of its workers washing eating utensils in a puddle of water by the roadside.

He said that their chain of restaurants had always prioritised cleanliness at their premises.

“All Pelita branches received recognition from the Malaysian Islamic Development Department (Jakim) for cleanliness,” he added.
