RMAF hopeful that Sendayan air force base would continue

SUBANG: The Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) is hopeful that the Sendayan Air Force base in Negeri Sembilan will continue without any restrictions following Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) victory in the 14th general election.

RMAF chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang said the transfer process comprising assets, equipment and personnel have been carried out in stages and some of the departments have since been operating from the new air base following their transfer.

"We (RMAF) need the Sendayan air base and it's already almost 90 per cent complete.

"Hence we will discuss the direction on this matter with the Defence Minister, maybe next week," he said here today.

He said this after delivering his message to more than 700 officers and RMAF personnel at the Subang Air Base, in conjunction with the 60th anniversary of RMAF.

According to Affendi, he is still waiting for the government's decision on the matter but believes they will support the existence of the Sendayan air force base as a requirement for national air defence.

Before this, there were concerns that a small number of ongoing projects which were yet to be completed,

would postpone the transfer process if there was no support from the government.

The Sendayan Air Force base, which is about 303.5 hectares in size, will be the headquarters of the air force.

The RM2.7 billion airforce base sees the presence of 600 officers and other administrative members, accompanied by 1,300 family members.

It comes equipped with the latest modern facilities in line with today's RMAF requirements and challenges.

A number of air force training centres throughout the country will also be centered there, including the Air Force Education and Training Headquarters, and the Institute for Administration and Management of the RMAF.
