Muhyiddin urges Johor govt to set up committee to look into rising cost of living

JOHOR BARU: The state government should set up a high-level committee to study the high cost of living and come up with solutions.

The suggestion came from Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin, who said the committee should comprise experts in fields such as economy, agriculture and commerce.

“The committee should look into each issue in depth and come up with solid solutions,” said the Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia president at a buka puasa event with Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian here today.

”One of the solutions that they can look into is boosting food production,” said Muhyiddin.

“If we can produce more food, the cost of vegetables and meats will go down.”

He said a lot of government- and privately-owned land in the state had yet to be developed.

“If we can use the land to grow vegetables or farm fresh water fish, we can reduce the cost of living,” added Muhyiddin, who is also the state Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman.

He said the state government was committed to fulfilling promises in the PH election manifesto.

”The people have high expectations in the new state government,” he added.

“With the support of the Federal Government, we must work hard to ensure that all the promises are fulfilled and problems faced by the people are resolved within the period that was promised.”

Present was Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik.
