Nearly RM50 million collected under Tabung Harapan Malaysia

PUTRAJAYA: Tabung Harapan Malaysia (THM) has collected a staggering RM49,190,120.04 as of 3pm today, says the Finance Ministry.

The ministry has been providing daily updates on the collection amount ever since the fund was launched on May 30.

Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had announced the setting up of the fund on May 30 for Malaysians to play their part in helping the government to reduce the federal debt and liabilities which he said totaled about RM1 trillion.

It was reported that the contribution made to THM was tax deductible for individuals as well as companies and there was no limit to the tax deduction.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng was reported as saying that the ministry would appoint an external auditor to audit Tabung Harapan Malaysia, aimed to be used solely to pay off the national debt.

The public can bank in their contributions to Maybank account 5660 1062 6452.

All contributions must only be in Ringgit Malaysia.
