Maxis main sponsor of RTM's World Cup 2018 telecasts: Gobind

PUTRAJAYA: Maxis Berhad is the main sponsor of the live 2018 World Cup match telecasts by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), Bernama reported today.

It quoted Communications and Multimedia Minister Gobind Singh Deo, who told reporters that further details on the total sponsorship amount, number of matches involved, and profit to be generated from the event will be revealed on Tuesday at The Glass House in Seputeh, Kuala Lumpur.

“Everybody is excited about the details, so we are going to bring a team from RTM to answer all matters relating to the football telecast,” he said when met at an iftar event at the ministry here.

According to sources who spoke to the Malay Mail, another of the major sponsors is AirAsia.

Last month, Gobind announced that RTM will be airing 41 of the 64 matches of the 2018 World Cup. Of the number, 27 matches will be telecast live, while the rest will be delayed broadcasts.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng later stated that the government had succeeded in getting sponsors to fully fund the RM30 million initiative.

Asked if additional matches may be aired live, Gobind said that he had directed RTM to look into the matter.

“RTM will definitely be airing the opening and final matches,” he added.

The 2018 World Cup will be held at 12 locations in Russia, with the first match scheduled for June 14.
