Storm damages 59 houses in Seberang Prai Utara

KEPALA BATAS: A storm accompanied by strong wind had damaged 59 houses at the Seberang Prai Utara district here last night.

The unexpected weather struck the houses between 6.45pm to 7.30pm which also resulted in damages at windows of a bank while a police station there sustained minor damages.

Seberang Prai Utara district police chief Assistant Commissioner Noorzainy Mohd Noor said that during the period, a man also suffered light injuries after a tree fell on him while riding his motorcycle on Jalan Lubok Meriam at Tasek Gelugor.

“The victims were sent to the emergency ward at Kepala Batas Hospital for treatment before they were brought to Seberang Jaya Hospital for scanning. He is reportedly stable,” he said.

He said that areas affected by the storm were Kepala Batas, Seri Pinang, Tasek Gelugor, Teluk Air Tawar, Sungai Dua, Mak Mandin and Butterworth.

“The roofs of the affected houses were blown away, electric supply were disrupted and trees fell in some of the areas.

“However no fatalities were reported from the incident,” he added.
