SEREMBAN: A senior citizen died after an electric pole and tree fell on his car at Jalan Leftenan Adnan, near Seremban lake last night.
“Upon arriving at the site, I knew something bad had happened to him when I saw police officers and yellow tape barricading the area,” said Pradeep Chaudhury, 29, son to Ranandra Chaudhury, 74.
Pradeep said he saw firemen cutting off the roof of his father’s Perodua Myvi car, before he was told about his father’s death in the incident at 10.25pm.
He said he received a call from an unidentified individual using his father’s mobile phone at 11.30pm who informed him of the incident.
“The person didn’t tell me the condition of my father and only asked me to come to the location immediately. My mother and I were at home in Seremban 2 at that time and we immediately rushed to the location.
“When I arrived, I saw that my father’s car was badly damaged with the firemen trying to cut off the roof. My father was not at the location and I was informed that my father had died and his body taken to Tuanku Jaafar Hospital (TJH),” he said when met at TJH Forensic Unit here today.
The youngest of the four siblings said his father was on his way home after meeting his friend at Sungai Ujong Royal Club here.
The victim’s eldest son, Arun, 40, said the sudden passing of his father, who he described as a cheerful, friendly and kind hearted man, came as a shock to him and family.
Arun who works as an architect in Kuala Lumpur said he would help to arrange for the funeral ceremony expected to take place tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Seremban Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohamad Idris said a fire engine with eight firemen was deployed at the scene immediately after the department received the emergency call.
According to him, the victim was stuck in the driver’s seat after an electric pole and a tree fell on the car, believed to be due to the heavy rain and storm last night.
“The firemen took 27 minutes to bring out the victim using a hydraulic cutter. The victim was pronounced dead and his body was sent to HTJ for a post-mortem,” he said when contacted.
According to Mohamad, a report had been lodged with the police for further action.
