(Update) MACC raids 'safe house' believed to be Jho Low's

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) raided an apartment believed to have acted as a 'safe house' linked to the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) scandal, today.

The apartment, allegedly belonging to businessman Low Taek Jho or Jho Low is situated along Jalan Kia Peng, here.

The raid was conducted by a team of MACC investigators this morning who brought along another individual who was recently arrested to assist in investigation.

According to a source, MACC officers had to break into the apartment as no one was at home and the place looked more like an office, complete with computers and a photocopying machine.

The source did not discount the possibility that the house was used as an operations centre to carry out works related to 1MDB.

In the raid, MACC found cash and several documents in the apartment.

The source added that the MACC would conduct a large scale operation to complete the 1MDB investigation, which has long been delayed, based on new information obtained.

Previously, the anti-graft body issued warrants of arrest against Low and SRC International Sdn Bhd managing director Nik Faisal Ariff Kamil Nik Othman to assist in investigation into the strategic investment company.

Low earlier had instructed his lawyers to get in touch with MACC after he was informed the commission was looking for him.
