Youth council wants reopening of skills training loan for school leavers

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysian Youth Council (MBM) has urged the Human Resources Ministry to reopen the Skills Training Loan For School Leavers soon.

“Many youths are still waiting to get into technical and vocational training courses.

"And if they don't get into public institution for skills training, the private institutions will be their last resort.” its information chief, Mohamad Rizan Hassan said in a statement today.

“We feel that the issue and challenges in higher education, including technical and vocational education and training (TVET) should be resolved immediately, with a long term solution,” he said.

He said MBM had asked the government about the loans for last year’s batch but was told that it would be reopened within this month.

However, Rizan said he was worried that the long waiting period would mean that the school leavers will miss the July intake dates for private higher learning institutions.

“This will bring about a lot of disappointment for those who are hoping to take up skills courses and training.” he said.
