Defence Ministry welcomes suggestion to have childcare centres at all govt agencies

KUALA LUMPUR: The Defence Ministry welcomes the suggestion that all government agencies set up childcare centres by Jan 1.

Defence Minister Mohamad Sabu said the ministry, in fact, already had several such centres set up in the armed forces premises.

“We will follow whatever procedures are set (by the government),” he told reporters after attending a Hari Raya function at Khalid Al-Walid mosque at the ministry in Jalan Padang Tembak, before performing Friday prayers, here, today.

Present were Armed Forces chief General Tan Sri Zulkifli Zainal Abidin, Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) chief General Tan Sri Affendi Buang, Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) chief Admiral Tan Sri Ahmad Kamarulzaman Ahmad Badaruddin and deputy army chief Lieutenant-General Datuk Seri Ahmad Hasbullah Mohd Nawi.

The New Straits Times Press had reported that the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry was targeting to have crèches at all government agencies by Jan 1.

Deputy minister Hannah Yeow had said the ministry was auditing all government agencies, especially those whose staff were required to work night shifts, to see if they had crèches.

This comes in the wake of the death of 5-month-old Adam Rayqal Mohd Sufi Naeif at his babysitter’s house in Kampung Nakhoda, Batu Caves.

His family had reported him missing but the child’s body was later found in the freezer at the babysitter's house.
