Johor govt sets up task forces to monitor operations at both checkpoints

ISKANDAR PUTERI: The State government has set up two task forces to monitor operations at the Sultan Iskandar Building (BSI) and Sultan Abu Bakar Complex (KSAB) checkpoints.

State Public Works, Infrastructure and Transportation Committee chairman Mazlan Bujang said the setting up of the task forces was part of the state government’s commitment to develop a more efficient public transportation system in Johor.

“The task force for BSI is headed by Stulang assemblyman Andrew Chen while the one for KSAB is headed by Perling assemblyman Cheo Yee How.

” The task forces, which will begin their duties immediately, will comprise staff from the government departments and agencies involved in the operations of the checkpoints.

“They will be responsible fpr monitoring and identifying problems at the checkpoints in order to ensure efficient operations. They will also come up with suggestions to improve the operations at the checkpoints for the short and long term,” said Mazlan.

He was speaking to the media after visiting KSAB where he also attended a meeting with the relevant departments and agencies. Also present were Chen and Cheo.

Mazlan said that the state government would submit a working paper to the Home Ministry on ways to reduce congestion at the two checkpoints soon.

“We will submit separate papers for each checkpoint as the operations at each place is different. We will also submit the same papers to Menteri Besar Datuk Osman Sapian for further action,” said Mazlan.

He said the two task forces had already identified several problems at the two checkpoints.

“Most of them are technical issues like lack maintenance and shortage of staff, which have been highlighted to Home Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin during his visit to BSI recently,” said Mazlan.

Another complaint which public had about KSAB was the lack of space to accommodate the increasing number of visitors who went through there.

“You have to remember that KSAB is an old facility and it was not designed to accommodate such a big number of visitors.

” However, I was informed that the relevant agency has submitted an application to upgrade the facility here,” said Mazlan.
