Rubber trader wants to expedite registration of marriage with 11-year-old girl

KOTA BARU: The rubber trader who got married to a 11-year-old Thai girl, Che Mohd Karim Che Hamid, 41, had submitted the documents necessary for their marriage registration to the Gua Musang religious office.

“The religious office would be liasing with the Narathiwat Islamic Religious Council before my marriage to my third wife, who is a Thai national, could be officially registered,” he said when contacted.

Che Mohd Karim said he wished the registration process would be settled soon and that his other wives had accepted the marriage.

“Alhamdulillah, my other wives have accepted our marriage as I managed to be fair to them including providing the daily essentials and a car.

“It is normal... there were those who were upset during the early stage of my marriage (with Ayu). She (second wife) has calmed down and accepted it,” he said.

The marriage on June 18 went viral after the man’s second wife revealed it on Facebook and sparked outrage among Malaysians who had also called for the minimum legal age for marriage to be increased from 16 to 18.
