Rawang NSE crash: Father killed on the way to visit children

SUNGAI BULOH: "Normally he will stay with me when he comes to Kuala Lumpur, but he said that he might not overnight today, maybe he already knew his time has come," said the sister of Noor Akhirludin Alam Mohamad Noor, who was killed in a multiple vehicle crash at noon today.

Noor Bunga Mawarraya Mohammad Noor, 49, said she was on the phone with the her sister-in-law 30 minutes before the tragic accident happened.

Noor Akhirludin Alam or Lam, 48, and his wife, Makshiah, and their youngest son, Ezzudin, were on their way from Penang to visit their second and third child, Ezzra, 15, and Faris, 14, who are studying here.

One child is at the Sekolah Seri Puteri boarding school and another at the National Permata Pintar Centre in Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia.

"Their trip was to collect Ezzra's report card and to visit Faris," she said when met at the Sungai Buloh Hospital mortuary today.

Noor Bunga Mawarraya said she was waiting for the arrival of her brother when she received news that they were involved in an accident.

"I was on the phone when they were about to pass Rawang, Makshiah said they may not overnight at my house at Jalan Peel, Cheras.

"I felt weird because normally they will stay with me and send their kids back to school the next day after Zohor prayer before they head back to Penang."

She said the loss was a shock for the family as her other brother just passed away forty days ago.

Noor Akhirludin Alam was among four people who were killed in a massive collision between a trailer lorry and several passenger vehicles at Km446 of the North South Expressway (NSE), south bound, near the Rawang rest area at noon, today, while his son, Ezzdin, was seriously injured in the incident.

Selangor Traffic Enforcement Investigation Department chief, Superintendent Azman Shari'at said the accident happened when the trailer lorry that was heading north hit a car.

This caused the trailer lorry to crash into the southbound side of the expressway where it collided with three other vehicles.

It is learned that the other three victims who died were Nurbaya Mohd Zaki, Nur Fitrah Rosman and Mohammad Hafiz Shahrul Jefri Din.

They were all killed on the spot.

The injured were Ezzudin, the driver of the trailer lorry and two passengers in one of the other vehicles involved in the crash.

All were rushed to the Sungai Buloh Hospital for treatment.
