Policeman's wife, two children killed in Lipis crash

LIPIS: A woman and two children were killed when the multipurpose vehicle (MPV) they were travelling in collided with a car carrier trailer at KM17 of Jalan Lipis-Benta near Kampung Penjom here today.

Nor Faizah Ridzuan, 34, whose husband is attached to the Petaling Jaya police headquarters in Selangor, was killed along with her 10-year-old son Muhammad Hariz Adrian Mohd Azman and three-year-old stepson Muhammad Hafiy Azman Abdullah, 3, in the 2.25am accident.

Lipis police chief Superintendent Azli Mohd Noor said investigations revealed that Nor Faizah was driving the Perodua Alza from Kuala Lumpur to Kelantan with the two children.

"She is believed to have lost control of the vehicle before it veered into the opposite lane, and the oncoming trailer crashed into the Alza. The MPV was dragged for several metres before hitting the metal divider.

"Nor Faizah and the two children who were in the rear passenger seat were killed on the spot due to severe injuries, and their remains were taken to the Lipis Hospital.

"The trailer driver escaped unhurt," he said, adding that the car carrier was not transporting any vehicles during the incident.

Azli said police will record the statement from the 48-year-old trailer driver, and the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987

Meanwhile, Pahang Fire and Rescue Department public relations officer Zulfadli Zakaria said nine firemen from the Lipis fire station were deployed to the scene to extricate the victims using special rescue tools.
