Wee to table motion for immediate recognition of UEC

KUALA LUMPUR: Down to only one representative in the Dewan Rakyat, MCA will table a motion for the immediate recognition of the Unified Examination Certificate (UEC).

Forming the main thrust out of seven motions proposed to be tabled, it seeks for the Education Ministry to give recognition to UEC so that students with the certificate can apply to enter public universities for the 2018/2019 intake beginning September.

The motion would be put forward by Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong (BN-Ayer Hitam).

Previously, the ministry decided to go ahead with recognition of UEC as outlined in the Pakatan Harapan manifesto.

Its Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said that they would not resort to U-turns or flip-flops regarding the issue.

Wee would also table a motion in the Dewan Rakyat to urge Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to not proceed with a new national car project.

The motion would propose that the government instead focus on holistically tackling issues in the automotive industry and strengthen it in line with the National Automotive Policy.

Wee would also table a motion urging Dr Mahathir to reveal details, terms and purpose by the government in seeking Yen credit from Japan.

The deputy MCA president would also seek the Dewan Rakyat to urge the Finance Minister to debate the method of tabulating the country’s debt by taking into account unforeseen liabilities, among others.

Another motion by Wee is on annual allocation and special funding for the development and maintenance of Chinese schools while still taking care of other types of national schools, among others.

Meanwhile, Datuk Johari Abdul (PKR-Sungai Petani) would table a motion for debate on the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s opening address.
