KOTA KINABALU: A total of 1,791 dengue cases were recorded in Sabah up to July 21 this year, an increase of 666 cases compared to the 1,125 cases reported in the corresponding period of last year.
Sabah Health Director, Datuk Dr Christina Rundi said that out of the 26 districts in the state, 12 showed an increase in dengue cases compared to last year.
“Four districts with a high number of cases were Kota Kinabalu with 491 cases, Tawau (357), Kunak (202) and Lahad Datu (178),” she said.
According to Dr Christina, the number of fatalities due to dengue in Sabah up to July 21 this year rose to 15 cases compared with only four deaths recorded in the corresponding period of last year.
Thus, Dr Christina said the people should always be concerned about the cleanliness of their surroundings and take necessary steps to ensure that the Aedes mosquito did not breed in their respective areas. -- BERNAMA
