Kedah to review salaries and allowances of GLC heads

ALOR SETAR: Kedah will review the salaries and allowances of the heads of government-linked companies (GLC) in the state, in line with what is being done by the federal government.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir said this was decided at the state executive councillors meeting today, in which the salaries and allowances would be restructured according to what was being done at the federal level.

He said, following a check, Kedah has a record of paying salaries above the national standard and this needed to be reviewed.

"This is something new that we see and it needs to be streamlined, as much as we can, we want it to be logical and not exceeding the national standard.

"This will be implemented in a month because there are many things that we need to look at in detail," he said, adding that one of the things that required attention was the vacant post of Kumpulan Bina Darulaman Berhad's (BDB) Managing Director following the death of Datuk Izham Yusoff in March.

"We will study and restructure the salaries of CEOs and chairmen in Kedah GLCs but it will not involve all that exceed the national standard, only some," he said when met at Wisma Darul Aman, here, today.

In May, NSTP reported Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad as having asked for a review of salaries and allowances of the heads of statutory bodies, commissions and GLCs.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke said the order was given by the prime minister to Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa at a Cabinet meeting.

The order came after it was brought up in the meeting that the chairman of the Malaysian Aviation Commission (Mavcom) was making RM85,000 in salary and allowance.
