Sg Kandis: Residents want traffic lights for road safety

SHAH ALAM: Misaligned road junctions situated in Jalan Kebun are the cause of many accidents including fatal ones, according to locals here.

Taman Maznah and Kampung Sungai Kandis residents said the absence of traffic lights have led to unmanaged busy lanes.

They said motorists tend to risk their lives by just traversing into busy traffic, which also include loaded heavy vehicles such as lorries from a nearby industrial area.

Last Friday, the road junctions witnessed yet another serious accident involving a Kampung Sg Kandis resident and trader, Mhd Bakir Sariman, 68.

His wife, Junaidah Mohd Amin, 55, said Mhd Bakir is currently warded in the Sungai Buloh Hospital's intensive care unit due to a blood clot in the brain, broken shoulder blade and fractured neck bone.

"That road is very busy in the morning. My husband was heading to our stall from home. But he was involved in an accident there.

"I am very sad and disappointed. The people here had long called for traffic lights to be set up here.

"There had been so many victims. Some were even killed. And still, no traffic lights. Now, my husband is warded in the hospital," Junaidah said when met.

She said most of the Kampung Sg Kandis residents were senior citizens, and they found it difficult to ply the area during peak hours.

"Please install the traffic lights quickly. There are so many lorries there as well. It is so dangerous."

Another resident, Ahmad Raudatun Naim Mohamad Jais, 33, said during the recent fasting month, two accidents were recorded within a week in which one victim had died.

"This matter needs to be looked into. We can have traffic lights and a four-way intersection," said the mechanic.

NSTP checks revealed that some motorists even took to entering the opposite lane while crossing over to the opposite junctions.

The road condition is horrendous - riddled with potholes and broken road shoulders.
