No decision to rewrite history textbooks, says Maszlee

PUTRAJAYA: Any change in the history book will only be done after taking into consideration input from the relevant experts, Education Minister Dr Maszlee Malik said today.

He said before embarking in any move to rewrite the history book, the government would first consult historical experts for their views and feedback.

“As you know, I prefer a more consultative approach.

"After getting the input from experts in the field and looking at the researches done, only then can I elaborate more on the matter,” he said.

Maszlee was commenting on issues raised at a forum in Kuala Lumpur yesterday, that history textbooks were used by the previous government as propaganda tools and in need for a review.

The discourse was co-organised by several civil societies, including Imagined Malaysia, Pusat Sejarah Rakyat, Malaysia Muda, Projek Dialog, Students in Resistance, and Gerakbudaya Bookstore.

He added that it would be improper for him to make any decision now without getting the experts views on the matter.
