KUALA LUMPUR: UNIVERSITI Teknologi Petronas will host the 5th World Engineering, Science and Technology Congress (ESTCON) at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre (KLCC) on Aug 13 and 14.

Its vice-chancellor, Prof Dr Mohamed Ibrahim Abdul Mutalib, said this year’s theme was “Science, Technology & Humanities: Reinventing the Future”.

“Through this congress, delegates and participants will work together to present and discuss innovations, trends and concerns, practical challenges and the solutions adopted in this new revolution.

“We have an excellent programme lined up.

“There will be ‘heavyweight’ speakers who will share their expertise on trends and issues on Industry 4.0 from a global perspective.”

He said one of the speakers who will deliver keynote addresses at the opening ceremony are Dr David Wood, who is London Futurists chair and Delta Wisdom principal.

Wood will talk about “Anticipating Successive Waves of Changes as the 4th Industrial Revolution Accelerates”.

Other speakers are Prof Datuk Dr Asma Ismail, who is Academy Of Sciences Malaysia president and Universiti Sains Malaysia vice-chancellor, and Prof Dr Ahmad Fadzil Mohamad Hani, who is Sirim Bhd president and group chief executive.

Asma’s talk is titled “A Road Map for Malaysian Science”, while Ahmad will share his views on the “Standards for Industry 4.0/Smart Manufacturing Challenges and Opportunities”.

Prof Muhammad Yunus, Nobel laureate social entrepreneur for founding the Grameen Bank, will deliver his keynote address titled “A World of Three Zeros” at the closing ceremony.

Ibrahim said the congress would act as a platform to help innovators and inventors to commercialise their inventions through its Innovation Pitching programme.

“Introduced in ESTCON 2014, the programme allows innovators and inventors to pitch new technologies to potential investors for commercialisation.

“ESTCON 2018 is relevant to everyone in the organisation.

“We believe participation at this congress will benefit participants, locally and globally, in terms of learning and networking potential.”
