KUALA LUMPUR: The public sector remains at the forefront in its commitment to bring about changes, said Chief Secretary to the Government, Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
In a statement to mark the 100 days of Pakatan Harapan administration, he said during the period, several measures were implemented improve the administration efficiency - from agency restructuring right to the change of positions involving top government officials.
“These measures were taken in line with the government’s vision to reform the administration institution.
“Among the steps taken was the termination of contracts of special envoys as well as the previous prime minister’s advisers who were politically appointed, (and) the disbandment of six government agencies to reduce administration cost,” he said today.
Ali Hamsa said the number of agencies under the Prime Minister’s Department was also reduced from 96 to 48.
He adds that apart from the secretary-general’s being appointed at 11 ministries, the National Centre for Governance, Integrity and Anti-Corruption (GIACC) (was established) to address the integrity issues among the government staff.
Ali Hansa said other efforts to improve public service and daily operations include the implementation of English competency tests among senior government officers and the implementation of Myportfolio (files, procedure manuals and flow charts).
“Apart from that, issues such as acts of sabotage among the staff, as well as leak of government documents were also being addressed through disciplinary and legal actions to ensure a smooth administration,” he said, adding that the changes were being carried out continuously.
Ali said public service sector would also continue to play a pivotal role as the executor to facilitate the government of the day.
“The public service’s standards and its staff aimed to provide the best service to the people, apart from being the backbone to the government that was given mandate by the voters through a democratic process,” he added.
