Proposed civil service remuneration improvements to be announced on Labour Day, says PM

KUALA LUMPUR: The proposed improvements including efforts to increase the net income of civil servants, will be announced at the upcoming Labour Day gathering, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

In a Facebook post, Anwar said today's meeting of the Public Service Remuneration Study Main Committee (JIKSPA) was to further discuss the civil service salary structure.

"Alhamdulillah, today's meeting has almost finalised the improvements to the new civil service salary structure, which will be decided upon in the Cabinet meeting.

"I want to emphasise the government's commitment to enhancing the civil service salary structure through the Public Service Remuneration System Study (SSPA), amidst the challenging economic conditions and global geopolitical uncertainties."

He said the government has considering the pressure of the cost of living, especially for low-income civil servants.

"May these efforts serve as motivation for civil servants to enhance productivity and provide the best service to the people," he said.

On Apr 5, Anwar said the government will announce good news on the civil servant salary increase before the end of this year.

He said, at present, the government was looking at ways to raise the salary of civil servants, which have not been raised for a long time.

He said the matter was being looked into because he heard complaints from the public, especially civil servants.

On Jan 21, the Congress of Unions of Employees in the Public Service (Cuepacs) president Datuk Dr Adnan Mat had reportedly said that the salary position of civil servants at present could not cover the burden of expenses following the increase in the cost of living.
