KULIM: A total of 20 disabled students from Rumah Amal Kulim took the initiative to build replicas KLCC Twin Tower and Jalur Gemilang using recyclable materials in conjunction with the National Day.
Home chairman Salleh Bahari said the programme was held to enliven the spirit of Merdeka and beautify the hostel compound.
“We received over 300 recyclable items like plastic bottles and coconut shells that were used to build KLCC and Jalur Gemilang monuments.
“The works, which started two weeks ago involved painting and arranging the bottles, done by the home residents.
“The children were monitored by the home’s staff and completed (the replicas) last weekend,” he said when met here today.
Salleh said the children, like other Malaysians, wished to display their love for the country and carried out the tasks diligently.
“Apart from painting the building walls with Merdeka-related murals, we had also decorated the welfare home with Jalur Gemilang and the state flag.
“I hope that this effort would encourage others to also enliven the National Day celebration this year,” he said.
