KUANTAN: Once an active football player, teenager Muhammad Farhan Danial Kamsiran now had to forget his schooling for a while.
The Form 4 student of Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Bukit Rangin here was diagnosed with high-risk blood cancer or B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukaemia in January last year.
To make things worse, both his legs were broken due to an infection in May, according to his mother, Norehan Mohd Yunus, 54.
She said his third child was complaining of a headache and pain in his eyes, as well as presence of lumps under his ears. After taking a CT scan, Norehan’s worst nightmare came to reality as her son was diagnosed with cancer.
“In December last year, I brought him shopping for new clothes for the 2017 school session. It was then that he complained about having headaches and feeling pain in his eyes. Since then he kept having headaches and almost fainted on his first day of school.
“On the second day, he couldn’t take it anymore so I took him to a clinic and the blood test result showed that his blood count was really low. He was then referred to the Tengku Ampuan Afzan Hospital. He was hospitalised for further treatment following the diagnosis before being transferred to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital in Kuala Terengganu. There, he received chemotherapy for three months,” she said when met at her house in Sungai Isap Perdana here today.
Norehan said her son’s misery didn’t end there. Muhammad Farhan had been vomiting, having a fever, diarrhoea, and feeling pain in both his legs for two months since February.
“He went for an x-ray and found out that his left leg is broken in three places and his right leg is broken in two due to an infection,” said Norehan.
She added that the chemotherapy had been postponed to give way to the treatment for his legs, which were fixed by using metal screws, pins, rods, or plates to hold the bones in place, and was done at the University Malaya Medical centre in May.
Norehan and her husband Kamsiran Mohd Alwi, 56, who works with the Pahang Public Works Department Military Unit had forked out about RM30,000 for their son for the past two years.
“I already applied for an aid from the Welfare Department but until now, I haven’t received any feedback. I hope my application will go through to help us a bit,” Norehan said.
