Muslim students at Terengganu school made to sing Christian song?

DUNGUN: The Terengganu state education department (JPNT) confirms it has received a report on an allegation made via social media that a primary school in Hulu Dungun made Muslim students memorise and sing a song that contains lyrics about Christianity.

The allegation went viral on Facebook and WhatsApp chat application following a posting made by one 'Cikgu Izzat'.

In denouncing the act, Cikgu Izzat shared a photograph of the alleged lyrics that the students were told to memorise.

Titled 'Satu Suara' (one voice), the song contains the lyrics 'satukan kami dalam kasih Yesus' (unite us in the love of Jesus) and 'pulihkan gereja ku agar perubahan terjadi sekarang ini di Malaysia' (restore my church so that change can happen in Malaysia).

In his post, 'Cikgu Izzat' who describes himself as an education activist on his Facebook profile, said this was a serious matter and called for an investigation to be conducted immediately and strict action taken.

Terengganu state education director Shafruddin Ali Hussain when contacted said they were investigating the matter and stressed that the department viewed the issue seriously.

"JPNT views this issue seriously and will conduct a comprehensive investigation. We will investigate why such a thing can happen.

"If it is true, we will take strict action," he said.

If the matter took place at a school, the department would consider action against the teacher involved based on their scope of authority.

Checks on the net found that the song shares the same lyrics as an Indonesian song titled 'Pulihkan' by Jubilee.

However, the original song talks about Indonesia, and in the viral photo, the word Indonesia was replaced with Malaysia.
