SUBANG JAYA: More than 1,000 families are facing odour pollution from a manmade lake near Taman Damai Utama.
State local government, public transport and new village development executive councillor Ng Sze Han said residents had reported two weeks ago that rubbish was being dumped into the lake.
He said the lake used to be beautiful, and added that the 1.62ha site was owned by an individual and a developer.
“Before this, Indah Water Konsortium confirmed that they had no problems involving sewerage,” he said.
“Further investigations were conducted and finally the location of illegal waste disposal was found.
“Some irresponsible people have turned the area into a dumpsite without the knowledge of the landowners.”
Ng said he was concerned about the health of residents because the lake could become a mosquito breeding ground.
He said the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) and the Land Office had issued a notice and a compound of RM25,000 to the landowners.
“If the owners fail to perform the cleaning work, the state government will not hesitate to confiscate the land.
“The cleaning process will take timebecause most of the rubbish is in the lake.
“It would be easier if the rubbish was on land.”
William Ng, 68, who lives nearby, said they had to put up with the odor every day, especially between 4pm and 7pm.
“It has become worse lately. Hopefully, it will be resolved soon,” he said.
