We did not receive money from 1MDB - Umno leaders

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno secretary-general Tan Sri Annuar Musa and two other party top leaders have denied of receiving funds from the scandal-plague 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

Annuar, his predecessor Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor and Pasir Salak Member of Parliament Datuk Seri Tajuddin Abdul Rahman also denied claims suggesting that they were among more than 50 people who received money from 1MDB as identified by the police.

“I did not receive any calls (by the police to have his statement recorded). Maybe, this is because, I did not receive money from 1MDB,” Annuar told the NSTP when contacted today.

The Ketereh Member of Parliament was asked to comment on the statement by the police, which found that US$972 million (RM2.973 billion) from 1MDB was transferred into former prime minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s AmIslamic Bank personal account.

Deputy Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Noor Rashid Ibrahim, said investigation also showed 50 individuals in Malaysia and abroad, had received money from the transactions.

Noor Rashid said among the 50 individuals included politicians.

When asked if he was aware of any Umno leaders receiving the money, Annuar said based on media reports, the transaction must have taken place during the 13th General Election.

“Accepting money does not mean they are involved in the scandal,” he quipped.

Tengku Adnan, who is Umno treasurer, urged all quarters from making speculations and let the police to complete its probe into the case.

“As far as I am concerned, I never receive money from 1MDB. And up until now, I have yet to receive any calls from the police to have my statement recorded,” the former federal territories minister said.

Tajuddin said he and the Pasir Salak Umno Division had only received money in the form of monthly provision from the PeraK Umno Liaison Committee.

The former deputy agriculture and agro-based industry minister said the monthly provision of RM5,000 was spent to conduct programme and activity for the people.

“A portion of the provision was also used to pay electricity bills, rentals (for the division headquarters’ office) and other expenses.

“The provision is not enough, which compels the division to look for our own resources. Having that said, the division and myself had never received money from 1MDB,” he said.
