Taking charge: Thai woman breaks into stranger's house to charge mobile phone

KUALA LUMPUR: A woman in Thailand recently broke into a stranger's home not to steal property, but to briefly use a power plug point.

According to Says, the Sept 11 incident was noticed by a neighbouring resident, who saw the woman climbing over the house’s fence and running inside.

The concerned neighbour decided to investigate, and walked over to the house, entered the premises and found the woman… casually charging her mobile phone.

When asked what she was doing, she simply replied that she was "sheltering from the sun."

The woman then made a run for it, climbed back over the fence and fled on a motorcycle she had parked nearby, Coconuts Bangkok reported.

Although the “21st Century thief” managed to flee, the neighbour had taken ample photos of the woman via her mobile phone’s camera.

After learning about the break-in, the owner of the house posted an angry message on his Facebook account which recounted the incident.

"What gives you the right to break into people's houses according to your liking AND using their electricity?" he asked the interloper in the post, which has since gone viral.

Amazingly, the post reached the woman, who, perhaps out of guilt, decided to contact the homeowner and apologise.

She later even followed him to a police station where a report was lodged, Says reported.

In her apology, the woman said that she had not thought before acting, and had not meant to intrude on his home.

The homeowner dropped his plan to file charges against her, but left his Facebook post up as a warning to other would-be felonious mobile phone-charging house-breakers.
