Immigration Department busts prostitution ring involving foreigners

KUALA LUMPUR: The Immigration Department busted prostitution network involving foreigners at three hotels around Dataran Mentari, Petaling Jaya and Jalan Puchong on Tuesday night.

Director-general Datuk Seri Mustafar Ali said the department detained 18 women believed to be offering sex service during Op Mega 3.0 conducted in the areas.

He said 12 out of the 18 women were Thai nationals, while the others were Indonesians (four) and Laos (two) nationals.

“We raided the first hotel at about 9.10pm where we detained four Indonesians, three Thai nationals and a Laos national.

“We also discovered the immoral activity carried out at the second and third at about 10.35pm and 11.40pm, respectively.

“During the raids, we detained nine Thai women and a Laos national woman,” he said in a statement today.

Mustafar said the team also conduced checks on 10 men believed to be guardians of the premises to facilitate investigation.

“We believe that the busted network has links with the ones we raided in Op Immigration last week,” he said.

On Sept 14, NSTP reported the prostitution racket to be operating under an international syndicate smashed by the department in a raid in Petaling Jaya.

Customers were required to pay between RM300 and RM450 for a 45-minute sex service.

The syndicate was found to have offered prostitutes from Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, China and Vietnam to customers, including the elite group, making hotels as their operation sites.
