Two killed after being hit by 30-tonne lorry in Simpang Pulai

JOHOR BAHRU: Two men were killed when the vehicle they were in was hit by a sand-laden 30-tonne lorry which was experiencing faulty brakes while descending Gunung Pulai in Batu 4, Simpang Pulai.

In the 4pm incident today, the car driver Soh Lip Soon, 60, and passenger Late Abdul Rafiq Imam Sharif, 50, a Bangladeshi, died at the scene.

Pekan Nanas Fire & Rescue Department operations commander, Mahadir Mamat said five personnel and an engine rushed to the scene after receiving a call at 4.17pm.

“The initial report that we received states that a 30-tonne lorry had crashed into a Toyota GL Wagon before crashing into a nearby workshop,” he said in a statement today.

He said the lorry was believed to have experienced faulty brakes before it hit the car and the workshop, adding that the two men were killed at the scene due to the impact of the crash.

“Rescuers took about 45 minutes to pull out the victims. The lorry driver was uninjured and he had lodged a police report,” he said.
