Lorry driver claims faulty brakes behind 14-car crash

KLANG: The driver of a garbage truck claims to have had brake problems before he lost control of the heavy vehicle which rammed into 14 cars along the Federal Highway yesterday.

Klang Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner S. Vijaya Rao said to verify the 41-year-old driver's claims, the lorry will be sent to Puspakom to be inspected.

Vijaya said the 2.33pm incident occurred at the traffic lights of Federal Highway and Shahpadu Highway from Shah Alam towards Kapar.

He said initial investigations showed the heavy vehicle had hit the 14 cars which queued at the traffic light junction.

"No one was hurt and the drivers had gone to the police station to lodge reports.

"The urine test of the truck driver returned negative.

"Investigations are on-going under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

Videos of the collision's aftermath, with a significant amount of debris strewn across the road, made its rounds on social media yesterday.
