Witness heard victim's cry for help as car goes up in flames [NSTTV]

KUALA KANGSAR: As she heard a cry for help, Nur Amelia Amran could only watch the car the victim was in, along with four others, being engulfed in fire at KM255.6 of North-South Expressway northbound near Menora Tunnel.

Nurul Amelia, who was only a few metres away, said she felt helpless as she could not reach the victims who perished in the accident after the car was hit by a trailer.

“I saw everything with my eyes. I saw the trailer slowly hitting the car until it was sandwiched between the heavy vehicle and the road divider.

“I was heading to Ipoh from Kuala Kangsar; I was passing by the scene and I could hear a woman’s voice in a low tone calling for help,” she said when met at the Forensic Unit of Kuala Kangsar Hospital here today.

Nurul Amelia said many motorists stopped their vehicles to help the victims, but could not do anything as the flame was too strong.

It was reported that five members of the family including a baby were killed in the 11.30am accident.

Perak Traffic Enforcement and Investigation Department (TEID) chief Superintendent Ahmad Adnan Basri confirmed the incident.

“However, the identities of the victims have yet to be known and they were taken to the Kuala Kangsar Hospital,” he said.

Meanwhile, Kuala Kangsar Fire and Rescue Department chief Mohd Taufiq Abd Sattar said five bodies were found including the baby, who whose remains were found underneath the others.

The trailer, transporting iron ore, was headed for Penang from Johor Baru.
