Three-vehicle crash causes 8km traffic crawl near Yong Peng

BATU PAHAT: Five people were injured, including one severely, in an accident involving two lorries and a four-wheel drive at KM81.2 of the PLUS highway near Yong Peng this morning.

Batu Pahat police chief ACP Azhan Abdul Halim said the incident which occurred at 7.30 this morning caused about 8km traffic crawl but the local authorities managed to control the situation.

“The accident, which involved a Nissan Navara and two lorries, occurred when one of the lorry drivers lost control of his vehicle before it crashed into another lorry and overturned.

“The impact caused both lorries to overturn on two lanes and slowed down the traffic for about 8km.

“One of the lorries also crashed into the Nissan Navara which was travelling on the same lane. We are still investigating the case,” he said.

He said all those injured had been sent to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital (HSNI) for treatments.

Meanwhile, a state Fire and Rescue Department spokesperson said machinery with eight personnel led by Ibnul Kasim Ahmad and Yong Peng Fire and Rescue chief Asroy Yahaya were rushed to the scene.

“We received a call at about 8.05am and we managed to rescue all victims. The operation concluded at 10.13am,” the spokesperson said.
