Zahid arrives at MACC HQ to have statement recorded

PUTRAJAYA: Umno president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has arrived at the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission's (MACC) headquarters for the third time to assist investigations into the alleged misappropriation of Yayasan Akal Budi funds.

The former deputy prime minister arrived at MACC's headquarters at about 9.20am today to have his statement recorded after being summoned by the graftbusters last week.

Zahid, who was seen driven into the MACC compound in a white Lexus SUV, was accompanied by several individuals as well as MACC officers.

Also present to have their statements recorded today are Datuk Nurulhidayah Ahmad Zahid and his brother Datuk Seri Mohamad Nasaee Ahmad Tarmizi.

The former home minister, who wore a green batik shirt and a pair of dark-coloured pants,looked cheerful as he entered the MACC building.

His arrival at MACC's headquarters today was greeted with bombardment of camera flashes.

A large group of local and foreign press had gathered here as early as 8am awaiting Zahid's arrival.

This is Zahid's third visit to the MACC headquarters since July.

Zahid was previously summoned by the the MACC over allegations relating to the Yayasan Akal Budi funds and 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

MACC chief commissioner Datuk Seri Shukri Abdull was quoted as saying that a notice had been sent to Zahid requiring his presence at the MACC headquarters today.

Zahid on Twitter had said the MACC would only be recording his statement. He also advised his supporters against holding a gathering in front of MACC headquarters.
